Clough Day 2015

Sunday 17th May was the tenth Prestwich Clough Day. The event began in 2006 to celebrate the centenary of Prestwich Clough becoming a public park. It is now one of the major dates in the Prestwich Calendar. Clough Day is a great credit to David Stanley and his team. Thank you David.

The Heritage Society was there as usual but this time in its own gazebos rather than the second marquee. Our stall was loaded with the goodies – pub books, Mermaid newsletters, old maps, postcards etc. We were helped on the stall by Geoff Bromage, a native of Prestwich who now lives in Oxfordshire. Geoff was having a long weekend with us.

Amanda also had polyanthus plants for sale in attractive pots. This was to help raise funds for Amanda’s group who are restoring the Flower Park.

The bran tub was popular again this year. Very few children and even some adults being unable to resist it.

It was not sunny but the weather held up and thousands of people were there. Clough Day is a great family occasion with a tremendous atmosphere.

There were also 8 scheduled events at the Church Inn including the Red Rose Brass Band and the Lone Piper.

We hope it remains a firm fixture in the life of the town.

Next events in the Park are the Band Concerts. These start on Sunday 24th May at 2.00 pm. Haslingden and Helmshore Brass Band will be performing then.
Then comes Besses Boys Band on 31st May and Besses O’ th’ Barn Band on 7th June. Bring your own seats and blankets .cloughday2
