Launch of New Book

David Galloway’s new book about the people from Prestwich
who were killed in World War One has been published. The Book is called “In Splendid Manner : The
Prestwich Roll of Honour 1914 -1918”.

The book gives details of each of men who died, including
personal details, information about their families from the Census, where they
were killed and where they are buried. It is the product of excellent and
exhaustive research. “The Prestwich Roll of Honour 1914-1918” is of great credit to the author.

The book launch took place in the Memorial Hall of the
Longfield Suite on the afternoon of Monday 28th March 2011. An appropriate venue since it contains the Roll of Honour of
those slain.

About thirty people attended the Book Launch and David was
kept busy signing copies of the book. He gave a short speech in which he
described his motives for the book ; it is a homage to the boys and men who
gave their lives for King and Country. A debt of honour is being repaid. Most
of them were young, some only 19 when they were killed. David’s wish was to bring them back to life so that they are not just names and numbers.

The Book is worth reading and an invaluable source for Local
History and Genealogy.

It is well produced and printed and costs £8.99.
